Why do I get an error message saying I cannot import files in Nero Video?

By design, Nero Video can only import media files if they exist in a supported video, image, or audio format.

Nero Video has a high compatibility with media formats. Still there may be cases when the format that you want to import is not supported, and an error message may pop up.

The below overview shows you what works and what is not expected to work.

Import video file formats

Nero Video has a high compatibility with video formats. Please check the detailed system requirements for reference

Import photo file formats

Nero Video has a good compatibility with photo formats. Please check the detailed system requirements for reference
Please note that you can import photo files only within the video editing module of Nero Video
The disc creation module in Nero Video does not allow this

Import audio file formats

Nero Video has a high compatibility with audio file formats. Please check the detailed system requirements for reference

No import of project file formats

Project files are no media files. These are data bases of the metadata of a given project
Nero Video cannot import video projects as media files
If you want to start an existing project go to home screen ‘Open Nero Video Project’

No import project metadata files

Many video, photo, or audio editing programs create special meta data files of individual files used within their projects and save them in the same folder as the source media files
These files are no media files and are neither needed nor supported in Nero Video
TIP: Before importing from such a folder, select ‘sort by file format’ in Windows Explorer and only import media files. If – by accident – you have some of these meta-data files in your list of files to import click ‘ok’. Nero Video will import compatible media files, anyway

No import of document files

In this case a user wanted to import document types of formats (word, text, etc.) via drag & drop into Nero Video
Such non-media formats are not supported in Nero Video

TIP: If you use the import function within the editing and disc authoring module of Nero Video, non-compatible formats will not be shown. This may help if you are unsure.

Where do I find Nero Application Manuals and how can I print these?

Starting with Nero 2018 products you will find a direct access to Nero Application Manuals in the respective application menu bar under ‘KnowHow’.

For downloading the PDF click ‘Download Manual’ in your application of choice. Printing the PDF will work in the regular way.

You will find the ‘Download Manual’ button in the respective menu bar of below applications:

Nero MediaHome
Nero Video
Nero Recode
Nero Burning ROM
Nero Express

If you are using Windows 10 you will have direct access to Nero KnowHow App via the same menu bar entry ‘KnowHow’. Just click on ‘Nero KnowHow’ to open all the dedicated FAQs with tips & tricks for your use cases. New FAQS (like this one) are being published on a regular basis.

Under Windows 10, there is also a button in Nero Launcher top right for launching Nero KnowHow App from within Nero.

Besides the FAQ section, in Nero KnowHow App you will also find a dedicated category for accessing Nero Application Manuals as well as a Glossary. For all of these you can comfortably make use of the global search function of Nero KnowHow App, too.

Which Benefits do I have through Nero KnowHow Notifications?

From version 1.2 Nero KnowHow sends notifications to your Windows 10 PC or your mobile device, as soon as a new FAQ blog is available. This will happen via the respective notification function via Windows App, iOS, and Android App.

Can I print out documents in Nero KnowHow App?

Starting from Nero KnowHow App version 1.0.11 you can print documents and pages. The printing function is available within the following modules: Nero FAQ, Nero Manuals, and Nero Glossary.

Make sure you are viewing content from one of the three modules mentioned above. To print out a special FAQ topic click on the FAQ headline to open the related page only.

To activate printing go to the top menu and select the three dot icon. Then select ‘print‘.

Depending on your used device an internal printing dialog or a web browser based printing dialog will open. Follow the instructions and settings within the dialog to continue printing.

Please note that Nero KnowHow only opens the printing interface availabe on your device. Selection of printing options is owned by the given printing interface of your device. Please make sure to understand the printing functionality and options of your device and in case check the availability of a network printer before making use of the print button in Nero KnowHow App.

Via the print function you can also print documents to PDF. For printing documents to your preferred cloud service you need to set up a cloud service accees point accordingly.

Note: when printing via a cloud print service you may see a message like ‘Print Spooler not available’. This may be caused by a faulty cache handling of your device. With the following steps you can do a workaround:
1. Open Settings > Apps
2. Find the application ‘Print Spooler’
3. Click the button ‘Clear data’
4. Open ‘Nero KnowHow App’ and try to print again
